Application & Function
Tantalum pentoxide is also called "tantalum anhydride", white orthorhombic crystals. Its chemical properties are relatively stable, resistant to common acids and alkalis, and will not be corroded by hydrogen chloride or hydrogen bromide when heated. The eutectic with alkali metal hydroxide or carbonate can obtain the corresponding insoluble tantalate, which will be hydrolyzed to produce hydrated tantalum pentoxide precipitate after washing with water.
Tantalum pentoxide is used to prepare intermediates of tantalum metal, optical glass, electronic instruments and tantalum carbide.
